The 1860 federal census for West Vincent, Chester County, Pennsylvania shows a 20-year old Jesse R. Clair living with 22-year old Daniel R. Fry and 20-year old Hannah L. Fry. No occupation is listed for Jesse, but Daniel is listed as a wheelwright. All were born in Pennsylvania.

According to the January 26, 1867 issue of the Jeffersonian, Jesse R. Clair of Schuylkill township, Chester County was married to Miss Priscilla McDermond, of Limerick township, Montgomery County on Jan. 17th, at Pottstown, PA by Rev. S. Siegfried.

In 1870, 32-year old Jesse and his 24-year old wife Priscilla were living in Montgomery County. Mary Ann was 2 1/2 years old and George was less than a year old.

A decade later, the census recorded 41-year old Jesse R. Clair and his 34-year old wife Priscilla living in Phoenixville, Chester County, PA, along with his four children. A nephew, 7-year old Fred McCluen is living with them. Jesse's occupation is listed as a laborer.

According to the 1910 census, 71-year old Jesse, 64-year old Priscilla, and 40-year old George Clair were living with their daugher/sister, Rachel Emma Grubb, and her family in Philadelphia.

Funeral notice for Jesse R. CLAIR, died December, 1912
In Morris Cemetery, Phoenixville, to-day, the body of Jesse R. , husband of Priscilla D. Clair, was laid to rest. He formerly lived in Phoenixville, where he held a position with the Phoenix Iron Company, but died in Philadelphia at the age of 74 years. He is survived by his wife and three daughters, vis.: Mrs. John SHUPE, of Harveyville; Mrs. Edwin STOTT, of Philadelphia; and Mrs. Harry GRUBB, of Philadelphia; the last being his youngest daughter, with whom he made his home.
