In a petition by the heirs of Isaac Patterson states he died in Sept. 1825. The children are listed in this order; John, Peggy and William were of age (over 21) and David, James, Polly, Betsy, George, Nancy and Isaac are under the age of 21... waters of Rock Creek, adjoining the lands of Henry Coble, David Coble... By March 1827 in another petition Barbara Patterson widow of Isaac Patterson decd., also John Patterson, Peggy Patterson, William Patterson and David Patterson, all children of Isaac and of age and Mary, Betsy, George, Nancy, and Isaac all children of Isaac and under the age of 21. This document indicates that son James has died. Isaac owned twothousand acres of land and a saw and grist mill in Orange co. Isaac's brother David is mentioned. David Patterson, brother of Isaac Patterson, bought the saw and grist mill 26 Nov 1827 for $300. Evidently there was a family Bible giving names and birth dates. Three children not metioned in the petitions but evidently named in the Bible are; Sallie Patterson b 18 Sep 1817, Moses (Col.) Patterson b 11 Mar 1812, [This could fit datewise but why is it listed out of order? Could the date be 1821?], Malinda Patterson b 17 Dec 1822.
"Nancy [Carr] also found at the North Carolina State Archives, the following dated 2 Sept 1837 that John Patterson, David Patterson, George Patterson, Isaac Patterson, Mark Bray and Margaret my wife, John McPherson and Mary my wife, Elijah Bray and Elizabeth my wife, Boa Adams and Maney my wife, for in consideration of the sum of three hundred thirty dollars cash in hand paid by William Patterson...land." [e-mail from Dan & Marilyn Devaney]
The 1840 Orange co. NC census, Southern dist. page 259, has Boaz Adams, he is age 30 to 40 with family. On page 260 is Jno McPherson age 20 to 30 with family. The 1840 Randolph co. NC census has an Eli Bray age 60 to 70 and on the same page is a John Patterson Esq. and a David Coble. I don't find another Eli or Elijah Bray in NC in 1840. There is an Elijah Bray in Henderson co. TN age 20 to 30.
Isaac Patterson is buried in the Mt. Zion Bapt. Church Cem., Alamance Co., North Carolina. They lived in the part of Orange that became Alamance county.
Descendants of Isaac still own the family property on Stinky Quarter Creek. I corresponded in Sept. 2007 with Cristie Akin a descendant of Isaac's grandson William Andrew Patterson.
