The information used to construct the above family trees has been gathered from various sources such as:- The Castledermot Parish Registers, The Tithe Applotment Books, Scully's Census, Griffiths Valuation, Headstone inscriptions, Electoral Registers and traditional folklore from old residents/relations in the locality.
Parish Records
The catholic church records for the parishes of Castledermot and Moone date from 1789 when Fr. Lennon became P.P. In the early records there are many gaps and omissions.
Tithe Composition Records
The tithes were a charge on income designed for the upkeep of the established church. In 1823 and 1824 Tithe Composition Acts were passed which made provision for special vestries to negotiate a composition for tithes for the entire parish with the tithe owners. The tithe applotment books, sometimes with accompanying maps, registered and recorded the results. The tithe books are generally to be found for the years 1826 to 1834.
The areas of land holdings are given in Irish Acres where 1 Irish Acre = 1.62 Statute Acres.
Scully's Census of 1840
The Rev Laurence Dunne P.P. Castledermot employed Edward Scully in 1840 to collect this census in order to 'fill in the gaps' of the parish registers which were incomplete. The shaded area in this example is similar to what one would find in Scully's census.

Griffiths Land Valuation from 1852
Griffiths valuation is a complete listing for the entire country of all householders with their appropriate valuations. It was published in 1852 and updated regularly to the present day to show the various changes in land and house ownership.
The areas of land holdings are given in Statute Acres (4,840 square yards).
