His obit from his FAG memorial:
Last Saturday morning at 9:45, May 9, 1925, Dr. Thomas Jefferson Shinn, Wagoner, passed away at the family home. He had been ill for several months with consumption and bedfast for the past two and one-half months. He had realized that death was near and made all arrangements for his funeral. All his immediate family were at the bedside when the end came.
Funeral services were held at the home at 2:30 on Sunday afternoon. The simple service was held by Rev. J. P. Atkins, pastor of the Methodist Church, of which, Dr. Shinn, was a member. Beautiful music, songs he loved, was sung by a quartet composed of Mrs. J. C. Weaver, Mrs. J. P. Atkins, Roy Cunningham and Fred Olmstead. The interment was in Elmwood Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Messrs. Barney Thomas, F. L. Kirby, Joe Casaver, Mark Evans, J. C. Weaver, and Jess Goddard. The honorary pallbearers were the doctors of the city and Dr. Davis of Tulsa, and Dr. Stark of Okmulgee. His casket was covered with a wealth of floral offerings of friends who knew and loved him.
Dr. Shinn was past 49 years of age, having been born at Yardelle, Arkansas, February 18, 1876. He came to Wagoner in 1906. In 1913, he formed a partnership with Dr. G. W. Jobe and this partnership was maintained until his serious illness.
Dr. Shinn was a member of the Methodist Church, Wagoner Lodge No. 98, and also the Royal Arch Masons. He leaves a wife, Nora Mae and two daughters, Mrs. N. S. (Lullian) Lyles of Bartlesville and Mrs. Ralph (Lillian) Adams of Wagoner; three brothers, Judge J. M. Shinn of Harrison, Arkansas, F. C. Shinn of Jasper, Arkansas, and Sanders Shinn of West Grove, Arkansas.
The funeral was one of the largest ever held in this city, the home being crowded with those who desired to pay their respects and many more filled the yard, who could not get into the house. Many friends from Muskogee, Tulsa, Okmulgee and other places were here to attend the funeral.
Dr. Shinn was one of the best known physicians and surgeons in Eastern Oklahoma, people often coming long distances to him for treatment or an operation. He was recognized as one of the best men in anatomy and surgery in the state.
Dr. Shinn was a kindly, courteous, honorable man, one who numbered his friends by the score and many hearts are saddened with his passing to the Great Beyond.
