From another family tree:
"Jeptha H. Whorton was killed by Bushwhackers either during or shortly after the Civil War.
There is a large conflict in the dates of his marriages and the births of his children:

He married Sophrona prior to 1839. They had five known children, the first born in 1839 in AL. and the last born in 1851 in AL..

He is said to have married Frances Harris on 19 APR 1843 with their first child born on 16 MAY 1846 in GA. and the last born on 18 AUG 1864, place of birth not known."

Quite a bit of the above seems to be untrue or at least incredible. If Jeptha was married to and having children with Sophrona in 1851, I'm thinking Frances gave him a real hard time about it, since he was married to her in 1843. And I found him in the 1870 census in Webster Co GA and in 1880, he was in Freestone Co., TX, so he may have gotten attacked by bushwhackers, but they didn't kill him.
