From a South Carolina Genforum, entry dated 2/28/2005:
"Hello my name is Sandra Ralston. I am looking for any information on Catherine Laney Funderburk, she was born around 1740 on Dec.10th in Rowan County. Her family were Irish immigrants. Her father was Titus Laney. She died somewhere between 1805 and 1820. Her husband was Hans Devauld Funderburk, he was born Dec.11th 1724 in Schlossburg Germany. He came over on the ship called The Golden Beaver. He was the only Funderburk survivor on that ship. He was an indentured servant for awhile then came to work with Catherine's father. Please e-mail me at: Vondenburg@aol.com. Thank you."

From the same author, dated 10/21/2004:
"Hello my name is Sandra Ralston. My mother's maiden name is Funderburk. Her father was Isaac Appleton Funderburk and her grandfather was John Harrison Funderburk. I would like some information on Hans Devauld Funderburk, he was 14 years old when he left Leipzig, Germany with his parents and 6 brothers and probably 2 sisters. They were on the ship "The Golden Beaver" at Hamburg. The Golden Beaver was shipwrecked off the Carolina coast. He lost his whole family. He was rescued and brought to Charleston,South Carolina and was sold as an indentured servant to a planter to pay passage. This may have been at Orangeburg where there was a colony of Germans. In 1755 he married Catherine Laney. If any of this information sounds familiar please e-mail me at: Vondenburg@aol.com."
