    From her FAG memorial:
    Velma was the daughter of Robert Emmett and Ruby Kilpatrick Whorton. She was born in the tiny town of Cryer Creek, the second of their children. She never married but took care of various members of the family through illness and death. When her brother, Robert, was killed in Oct 1938, she was made guardian of his orphaned daughter, Mary Jo, and raised her as her own. She nursed her mother through her last illness. She was always loyal to her family and was a very sweet person. When she died in 1984, she was laid to rest with her parents in Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana Texas.
