    Colloway, Nathaniel C Buried May 7, 1862 Lot/Division 2, #102 Plat Number 652
Arkansas 23 (Adams) Infantry Regiment Private (Pennington's) Co H; enlisted March 6, 1862 at Arkadephia, Arkansas; per March 6 to June 30, 1862 Muster Roll remarks; died May 7, 1862 Memphis, Tennessee typhoid fever; died at Mansfield's and name spelled Calloway per Cemetery record.

On 20 Nov 2010, a Callaway cousin and I went to Elmwood Cemetery. Nathaniel's grave is only marked by a numbered concrete marker placed in 1886 by the Confederate Historical Society. We located the grave and plan to request a gravestone from the government, and will pay the cemetery to set it. Nathaniel's grave is one row down and five graves to the left of a very prominently marked grave of Captain Kit Dalton.

From the Callaway Family Association at http://www.callawayfamily.org/cfanet/cfanet0105.htm

In October 1847, Nathaniel built a cabin and began farming on the northwestern quarter of Section 26, Township 6 South, Range 20 West. This property is now owned by Weldon Lookadoo and the US Corps of Engineers. In October 1854, the Pre-Emption Act was passed by Congress and Nathaniel purchased his parcel previously described, as well as the southeast quarter of Section 28, Township 6 South, Range 20 West for 12.5 cents per acre from the United States at the Washington, AR Land Office. After his death in 1862, three of his children, Caddo, John and Thomas, were raised by his brother, William A. "Little Bill" Callaway.
