  • Note: William Clarke, Esq. was one of two Clarkes listed in the 1850 Griffiths Valuation in Meelick townland of Kilcolmanbane parish, Queen's county, Ireland. Thomas Clarke may have been a brother. A headstone in the Maryborough/Portlaoise cemetery indicates William was aged 90 at the time of his death in 1878. However, the parish register indicated he was 99. As well, the death registration 2nd qtr 1878 Mountmellick District gives his age at death as 102; widowed, Gentleman, cause of death "Debility and old age, Four years, uncertified, no medical attendant," informant was Robert Clarke, also of Green Road, Maryborough.
