His last will and testament names William Blake as one of the execrs. In May 1704 he appeared in court and acknowledged a deed of a parcel of land to William Blake and Mary his wife. Katharine, wife of Nicholas, relinquished her right to Dower to parcel of land given to Wm and Mary. Other Sessums and Grays were around, too. - The Barefoots and Blakes moved to N.C. independently to each other. Barefoots in the 1740's to Columbus County, N.C. (about 25 miles west of Wilmington, on Lake Waccamaw) and the Blakes to south-central N.C. around Fayetteville. They came together when my g-grandfather Napoleon Bonaparte Barefoot married Freddie Augusta Blake in 1887. Samuel Blake and his brothers Benjamin, John, Etheldred,James and Thomas all fought in the Revolutioary War. Samuel's son Isham b. 1766, was a fifer for Lafayette at the battle of Brandywine and was also present with him and witnessed the surrender at Yorktown. This is why he chose to live in Fayetteville. In 1826, when the marquis had his tour of the U.S. and stopped in Fayetteville, he reunited with Isham and they rode together in the town parade. This is all documented stuff and the DAR chapter in Fayetteville is named The Isham Blake Chapter. Just a little tidbit for the children. They have an ancestor who was a 10 year-old fifer with the Marquis de Lafayette during the Revolutionary War. Isham's g-grandson is my gg-granddaddy. Here's how Benjamin fits in...1. William Blake 1623-1667 m. Hannah Tolman... both born in England2.
