Grant, Mr Lewis / Kemptville Weekly Advance, 14 Feb 1895 / His Last Call / (from the Kingston Whig) / On January 26th the death occurred at No. 8, Laurier Ave., Toronto, of Lewis Grant, formerly of Kemptville, later of Bath, a verteran of 1837, who served in the Battle of the Windmill at Prescott. He was a son of Lewis Grant, government surveyor, who came to Toronto with Gov. Simcoe in 1792, and grandson of William Grant, half-pay lieutenant, First Royals, Aberdeen, Scotland. He had six children, three surviving him, one son and two daughters. His last words were: "I know there are treasures laid up in heaven for me, for I am one of His sheep". About two hours before his death he asked for the XC Psalm to be read. His remains will be taken to South Gower, Grenville, to be buried beside his two wives. He was a widower for thirty-two years. Deceased was a reformer and adherent of the Baptist church. / Years ago Lewis Grant was a well-known citizen of Oxford township and was owner of the farm adjoining the Church of England at Oxford Mills. This property he exchanged with Reuben Clothier for the grist mill now the electric light station. After living here for 8 to 10 years, he removed to Bath.
