Kemptville Weekly Advance, May 20, 1895
      Obituary.
Died June 1st, 1895, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. James Gray of Chesterville, Mrs. Thos. Christie in the 88th years of her age. Mrs. Christie was one of the first settlers who are fast disappearing. She was the daughter of the late Lewis Grant, P.L.S., of Grant's Mills, Grenville, and the mother of Mrs. David Mundle of Kemptville. Her descendants are numerous, including 11 children, 34 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Christie and her late husband were the first two persons baptised in South Gower, near Kemptville, by the late Rev. D. McPhail who conducted divine service in their house with them during his labors there. They continued to be members of the South Gower church from the time of it's organization until their removal to Winchester 50 years ago. Their home from that time was the home of the pioneer Methodist ministers, no other having penetrated so far back. Soon after their removal to Winchester, Mr. McPhail visited them and preached in their house; and many years later when a Baptist church was organized at Winchester, Mr. and Mrs. Christie joined the church, he acting as deacon up to the time of his death. At that time there was no such thing as carriages and only lumber roads through the woods. Mr.
Christie travelled on foot, carrying bibles on his back, and distributing them to the settlers, he being an active member of the Bible Society. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.R. Coutts of Winchester who
preached from James 4th chap, second clause of the 14th verse: "What is our life". Her son, W.B. Christie of Guelph acted as director and the pall bearers were her six grandsons: Mosson B. Mundle of Kemptville; Ernest Gray, Ward Nesbitt, of Chesterville; Howard Nesbitt of Winchester Springs; Eardly S. Coons and Haldon C.
Coons of Morrisburg. Just before the end Mrs. Christie said to her daughter "there is not fear; Christ finished the Work; I am clothed in his righteousness; all
is well". She was interred in Maple Ridge Cemetery.
