requested an appointment for Charles Chatterton as Commissioner of
the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Apparently this was in exchange for
Charles and Elizabeth's help in convincing Elizabeth's younger sister
to marry Herndon. Charles did receive an appointment as Indian
