    From an article in the Shippensburg News-Chronicle on the occasion of Ed 's 93rd birthday in May 1994:
    Ed worked at several jobs before going to work in the 1920s as a bookk eeper at the Peerless Furniture Co., run by his brother Carl. He beca me a member of the board of directors and assistant to Carl, the preside nt and general manager of the plant. He also helped his sister, Hazel Nau gle Myers, start the M&N restaurant.
    Ed then was instrumental in opening the first self-service grocery sto re in Shippensburg. Four years later, he sold that store and opened Naug le Motors in 1945. It was the first Dodge dealership Shippensburg. His so ns, William and Richard, joined him in running the business. Tod ay it is run by William's sons, Robert and William.
    Ed was instrumental in many other enterprises in Shippensburg. When t he adolescents needed a place to gather, he got a room at the American Leg ion, and the Teen Canteen was born. He also served for 25 years on the Sh ippensburg Recreation and Park Commission, the last 11 of which as chairma n.
    In the 1960's, Ed decided Shippensburg needed a good bowling alley, a nd built what is now called Park Lanes in 1964. Besides owning the establ ishment, he was a pretty good bowler, carrying an average in the 180s duri ng the 1970's.
    Ed was president of the Lions Club for a while, president of the Commu nity Chest for a year, and a Sunday school superintendent at the Methodi st Church, where he was very active.
    He was a very successful businessman, as well as someone who, wh en he saw a need, figured out how to meet it. Ed made significant contrib utions to his community.
