THE ROBINSON FAMILY -Robert Robinson came from England in 1 684, in the ship "Swan", with his wife and several children , including Edward. Robert Robinson was granted 300 acres o f land in New Castle County, on April 3, 1684, according t o Pennsylvania Archives. (2) His wife's name is not known , nor those of their other children.

Edward Robinson was born in England about 1676, and came t o Delaware when he was eight years old. He married in 1699 , when a pew was assigned to his wife, a member of the cong regation. In the census of the congregation taken about 175 4, he is described as "An Englishman, but married among us" , also as understanding Swedish, but not able to read or sp eak it.

We will take the 2 Williams first. William#1 was born blin d that is all that is know about this William. William#2 wa s probably born in the early 1760s which would make him abo ut the right age to fit, but we have no further informatio n on him either.

Now for John Springer-It is known that John & Susannah Spri nger's children are: Sarah Springer b 1762 & David Springe r b 1765. It is not known when did Susannah died or did sh e & John have more children. It is known that after Susanna h death, John m.Catherine Bullock & that marriage date wa s 1779-not known if they had children or not. After the dea th of Catherine Bullock Springer. It is not known where Cat herine was born or were she died or where she married John . The next marriage was in NC in 1783 to Ann Green. She wa s daughter of William Green. They had {7}children(see below ). I do know there was a Rev. John Springer in VA during th e Rev War. At the time I found a John Springer in VA I wa s not looking for him as a father to my Dennis Springer.

Could this John b:Delaware, 1699 md for 3rd time in NC an d know to have died in GA. Be the same John found in 1790 C ensus? Janet -This put another John Springer in VA and NC b ut as you find he can not be the one who was in 1790 Census.
Now Jessie states on her webpage that John Springer, 2nd So n of Charles Springer 3rd & Susannah Seeds Springer. was pr obably born in or near Frederick City, MD-Nov 8, l758, alth ough his date of birth had been set as early as 1755 (Lilli an Heath, DAR).Family records say that before his marriag e he accompanied Daniel Boone on his 1st exploring expediti ons in KY; but whichever birth date is correct, this is obv iously unlikely as he would have been very young, He may ha ve traveled w/Boone after the latter brought his family fro m their former home on the Yadkin River in NC in Sep 177 5 & founded Boonesborough & of this exploring period Mabl e Warner Millikan tells this story of her ancestor & ours , John Springer 1st, "It has been told & retold in the fami ly that on this trip, while hunting one day, he came upo n a wild turkey gobbler, almost starved to death in the dee p snow. He scraped the snow from the ground, placed some pa rched corn from his shot bag on the bare place & left the t urkey to enjoy his feast." He was back in Frederick County , MD, on Oct 3, 1776, when he signed as a private in a comp any of militia, raised in the Middle District, Frederick Co unty, by Capt. Valentine Creager & served 3months Some tim e bet 1775 (Lillian Heath, DAR) & Aug 17, 1778, when thei r 1st child, Charles Springer 4th, was born in MD, he m.Sar ah Ann Butler "of Pennsylvania" but the marriage record ha s not been found, nor is her parentage known as of 1963. Jo hn Springer's sister, Nancy or Ann m. John Silvers (Sylvers ) on Apr 7, 1778 (l)& apparently the 2 young couples went t o Kentucky County of VA soon after the birth of Charles Spr inger, Aug 17, 1778 where the 2 Johns served as privates i n the company of Capt. Thomas Moore & an expedition agains t the Indians, under George Rogers Clark. They were apparen tly living at McConnell's Station, now a part of Lexington . John Springer's name was signed to a petition to the Gene ral Assembly of VA, dated May 1, l780, asking that KY be di vided for court & muster purposes. (2) The petition was gra nted & the 3 original counties of Jefferson, Fayette & Linc oln were formed, w/county seats respectively at Louisville , Lexington & Harrodsburg. As John Springer had signed as " one of your inhabitants north of the Kentucky River" he mus t have had his family w/him - his 1st daughter, Mary, was b : May 9, 1780 - & it is not certain when the family went t o the vicinity of Harrod's Fort, the little cluster of cabi ns which became Harrodsburg. Harrodsburg remained the sea t of government for KY for all practical purposes during th e rest of the Revolutionary War, (3) & John Springer & Joh n Silvers may have seen service at Harrod's Fort, as the re cords show that they were paid for 22 days' service in Capt .John Allison's Company of VA militia, enrolled Feb 26, 178 0 in the amount of 9 pounds, 4 shillings (I. P. D. 60). The ir families must have been w/them in the safety of the Fort , as there was no safety for women & children outside of st ockades; so it is likely that Sarah Ann Springer & Ann Silv ers were among the women who histories of KY say "Molded bu llets while their husbands stood guard & shot the Indians , whom the British in Canada were keeping stirred up agains t the white men". There is a reconstructed replica of the o ld Harrod's Fort at Harrodsburg, well worth a trip to KY. A ccording to the "American Guide Series-KY" Harrod's Fort co uld boast many "firsts". There was a steady stream of immig ration into KY from all over the East. The 1st court was he ld there on Jan 1,1781; the 1st woolen & grist mill was loc ated there, & the 1st corn in KY was raised there; the 1s t school house in KY is within the stockade, a small, low b uilding of hewn logs w/a huge fireplace across one end, int o which a log could be pushed through a small door (2) open ing from the great out-of-doors. There were 5 or 6 cabins a long the hill & each had a long pole to push the chimney ov er if it caught fire. The school was taught by Mrs. Willia m Commes. There were no text books, so the children learne d to read from the Bible & hymn books & to write on smoothe d boards, w/ink made from ox-galls,{CLB-I believe this shou ld be oak-galls, a type of swelling caused by insects on oa k trees-these hard, woody growths yield a blue-black fluid w hen boiled that has been used as ink for centuries}. John L ythe, one of the 1st missionaries to the frontier people, p reached there & Squire Boone, brother of Daniel, walked abo ut the fort w/a Bible in his hand. There George Rogers Clar k prepared to march into the Northwest Territory. NOTE FRO M JANET: At this time frame: KY & TN were a part of VA & N C. 1790-1800- KY & TN became States. This would make Joh n Springer in VA or NC but listed in KY or TN. This area wa s named Washington {County-sic}. As read far on in Jessie S pringer book. I must state that this John Springer could no t be the John Springer in 1790 Census in SC. Read the follo wing & you'll see: John Springer,1st d: Washington County , Aug 17, 1816; Mable says he died as the result of a fal l from a horse. The probate record begins on Sep 16, 1816 , (17) in probate Book C,pg23, with the awarding of the wid ow's dower to Elizabeth Springer & continues on pgs24, 32 , 260 & 503-1823. The fact that the proceedings are so lon g drawn out may account for the many dates that have been g iven for his death. The inventory shows cooper's tools, s o he knew that trade, in addition to his farming activitie s So make to drawing board. Must of Jessie Springer famil y move west to KY & later to IL. Ours was in SC, TN & nd la ter in Alabama. Still on the hunt. I hope one day link My D ennis to his parents. For info on my Dennis Springer clic k here for a link to his page.
