Note: Bogart, GA, Oconee County - Milton Dixon Smith, age 91, son of George Milton Smith and Mattie Emily Dixon Smith, died February 24, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital, Athens, Georgia, of complications from the flu. For the past seven years, he had been a resident of St. Mary's Highland Hills Retirement Village in Bogart. Born June 18, 1912, at Hoboken in Marengo County, Alabama, Mr. Smith, State Traffic Director, retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company after 43 years of service in the southeast. He was a member of the Civitan Club, Telephone Pioneers, and many other service organizations. He and his late wife, Christine McMahan Smith, were accomplished ballroom dancers, and were members of The Club, Monmartre Club, Downtown Club and the Tessara Club, and he was President of the Birmingham Dance Council. Survivors include one daughter, Jan Smith McCormack, Athens, Ga. and her husband, Dr. John McCormack; one son, Milton Dixon Smith, Jr., Pensacola, Fla. and his wife, Jane Mathews Smith; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at 10 AM on February 28 at Elmwood Chapel, followed by graveside services at 11 AM CST at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Alabama.
