"Two Pioneers of County Die"
"John J Turner"
John J Turner died at the family residence in Abbott at 1:55 o'clock Friday morning, Nov 17, 1933. Aged 61 years, 5 months and 21 days.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
Mr. Turner is survived by his wife Mrs. Annie Turner, one brother, J. B. Turner of Yoakum, two sisters, Mrs. C. A. Rogers of Fort Worth, and Mrs. Ed Pitts of Yoakum, Texas, son John Joe Turner at home, two daughters, Miss Sarah Bell Turner, and Mrs.Gladys Nance, both at home, also one grandchild.
Mr. Turner was born in Warren county, Tennessee, and came to Texas in 1887, locating in Hill county and on April 14, 1901, he was married to
Miss Annnie Swofford.
He was a member of the Abbott Lodge No. 777 A. F. & A. M., who will have charge of the services at the grace. He was also a member of the W. O. W.
Soon after midnight Mr. Turner became violently ill of indigestion, which is not an uncommon occurrence for the past few years. He arose and took medicine but to no avail, and he died at 1:55 o'clock.
For twenty-five years or more he has been a peace officer at Abbott and has been a highly respected citizen of that community and his going will remove another landmark from that community.
