  • Note:
The family, except for John, relocated to Rumford, ME, in the fall/winter of 1794-5. John then re-joined the family in the spring, at age 10, traveling the blazed trail, alone and on foot. A distance of approximately 135 miles. He remained in NH to complete his school year.
After marriage he settled about 3 miles north of Rumford Point, on the west side of the Ellis river, which is now known as North Rumford. After the death of their mother, the sons Benjamin and Oscar sold the farm to George S. Silver, who lived on the next farm below them. Fred, the son of Mr. Silver lived there until about 1855, when Hezekiah Hutchins of Andover became the owner. In 1914, Mr. Hutchins sold the farm to James Day of Woodstock and he sold to a Frank Foff, who sold it to the Stowell Company of Dixfield, who wanted the timber land. They sold the farm and a few acres of pasture land to Harry Hinkley, who lived there until about 1947, when they sold out to to the Edgerley Webber. This farm house burnt down in 1949 while occupied by the Webbers.
