Note: [The following excerpts are from the will of Thomas T. Worthington] In the name of God Amen, I Thomas T. Worthington of the County of Mason, being of sound, disposing mind and memory Blessed be Almighty God for the same and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and the redemption of all souls and being desirous of making a distribution of my Estate hath constituted, ordained, and established this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all other wills by me made and every line and word thereof in my own hand writing. It is my will that my Executors herein after named shall intern me in my family vault with reasonable decency. Item: as to my daughters Lydia Pepper and Mary Barker, I say nothing having heretofore provided for them out of my Estate. Item: I give unto my daughter, Martha Worthington, the Bond which I have executed in her own name for the sum of seventeen hundred and eleven dollars and also all the interest that may be acsuable on the same to her and her heirs forever. Item: I give and devise unto my son Samuel Worthington the plantation whereon he now lives called Parks Place with the ...bounds as it was conveyed to me. Item: I give and devise unto my son Vachele Worthington my plantation called Thomases Place where he now lives with the ...and bounds as it was conveyed to me to him and his heirs forever hereby confirming all other gifts theretofore given and delivered up to him. Item: I give and devise unto my sons Garrett Worthington and Maddison Worthington my plantation called Records Place with the ...and bounds as the same was conveyed to me, also the sum of two thousand dollars in...money to be equally divided between them whenever my Garrett advances to the age of twenty one years with this proviso that if either of them should depart this life before they arrive to the age of twenty one years in that case the estate shall descend to the survivor to them and their heirs forever. Item: I give and devise unto my Samuel Worthington, Vachel Worthington, Garret Worthington, and Maddison Worthington all my lands lying in the state of Missouri near the Desmoin River of eight hundred and eight acres as the patents which I hold for the same will more fully make appear to be equally divided between them and their heirs forever. Item: It is my will that my plantation whereon I now live, it being my first purchase of John Machir of three hundred acres of land with the ... and bounds as the same was conveyed to me, also all my stock of every nature and kind, plantation utensils of every kind, household and kitchen furniture of every kind not heretofore disposed of by my will and also all the moneys and obligations that I may have at my death not heretofore disposed of by my will shall remain in the hands of my beloved wife Arey Worthington, if she should survive me, during her natural life better to enable her to keep together my younger children until they arrived to the age of twenty one years and reasonably to finish the education of our two youngest sons, Brice and Henry and also after her death that all the estate put into her hands and the profits if any arising from the same, as part of it may be considered perishable and may be lost by death, I give and divise the land together with all personal property named in the covenant of my will to my two youngest, Brice Worthington and Henry Worthington to be equally divided between them and their heirs forever with this proviso that in case either of them should depart this life before they arrive at the age of twenty one years that the estate so given shall descend to the survivor and I do further direct that there shall be no inventory made nor sale of my part of my Estate as I owe no debts but what may be discharged otherwise and that I do hereby appoint my sons, Samuel Worthington, Vachel Worthington, executors of this my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this seventh day of December in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and thirty eight. This the first Codicil to the last will and testament of Thomas T. Worthington of Mason County who being of sound and disposing mind and memory offers thanks to the Almighty God for the same. Item: In addition to the bequest already made to my son Samuel Worthington I now give and bequeath to him about thirty acres of land part of the Records Place lying on and adjoining the west side of the tract already devised to him as laid off and marked out this day by the surveyor of Mason County. Item 2: whereas I have given and devised unto my two sons Garret Worthington and Maddison Worthington by my will that part of my plantation called the Records Place together with various other property the provisions and conditions in relation to which in my said last will and testament, I do hereby revoke and set aside and I do hereby give and devise to my said son Maddison Worthington all the remainder of the Records Place containing about one hundred and fifty eight acres, also satisfying and confirming all such gifts and advances I may hereafter from time to time make to him. To hold the same to him and his Heirs forever. Item 3: whereas I have already advanced to my said son Garret Worthington the sum of twenty two hundred dollars, a horse saddle and bridle, I also now give and bequeath to him the sum of five hundred dollars to be paid out of my estate by my executors. If I shall not during my lifetime have paid the same which will be evidenced by his receipts. Item 4: Whereas by my said last will, I have given and devised to my son Samuel Worthington, Vachel Worthington, Garret Worthington, and Madison Worthington all my land lying in the state of Missouri containing eight hundred and eight acres which said devised I do hereby revoke and set aside and give and devise the same land to my sons Samuel Worthington and Garret Worthington to be equally divided between them and their heirs forever. Item 5: I hold an obligation upon my son Samuel Worthington for the sum of six hundred and sixty dollars due and payable in the year 1846 which obligation I give and bequeath to my grand daughter Tralucia, the daughter of my deceased daughter Comfort, and her heirs forever, in case she shall arrive at the age of twenty one years or get married but if she shall not arrive at the age of twenty one years or not get married then I give the said obligation to my grand daughter, Elizabeth Worthington, the daughter of my son Samuel Worthington. In testimony whereof hereunto set my hand and seal the 6th day of October 1841.
