Note: William Wiggins served in the Revolutionary War. On May 5, 1984, the Hunt's Spring Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution held a ceremony for the dedication of marker at his grave. He is buried, along with his wife, at the Wiggins Cemetery located in Mexia off Highway 84, 4 miles from Monroeville. The program states:
" William Wiggins served in North Carolina's 10th Regiment, commanded by Col. Abe Sheppard. He enlisted in Coleman's Company of the N.C. line for 12 months and served in the Militia of the District of Wilmington in Lt. Wilkerson's Company from 17 Oct 1781 to 19 Apr 1782. His place of residence during the Revolution was Duplin County, North Carolina.
He was married to the former Elizabeth Cooper (1759-1825). She was the daughter of Fleet Cooper, Sr. and Margaret (Coor) Cooper of Duplin/Sampson Counties, North Carolina."
I have a copy of the program. The invocation and benediction was given by Reverand Mike Wiggins. Introduction of descendants of William Wiggins was by Lucy Wiggins Colson, Chpater Historian, and a biographical sketh was given by Lucy Wiggins Colson.
