  • Note: Veteran Conductor Crushed to Death John Cauffield, in Cambria's Railroad Department 44 Years, Victim Tanneryville Man Crushed about the chest when he was caught between two cars in the Franklin Open Hearth Department last night, John Cauffield, of Tanneryville, probably the oldest employee of the Cambria Steel Company's Railroad Department, was fatally injured. Death ensued while he was being taken to the Cambria Hospital. The deceased was 61 years of age, and had been in the Cambria's railroad service for 44 years, serving under D. M. Stackhouse, Alex Wilson, V. S. Doebler, and John Morley, successively. No one appears to have witnessed the accident that cost Mr. Cauffield his life, although one of his sons, Robert Cauffield, was working not far away and was among the first to reach his side. John Cauffield was born at Sheridan Station. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Cauffield, deceased. He began working for the Cambria Steel Company when 17 years of age. He was married many years ago to Arabella Dishong, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Dishong, former well-known residents of Morrellville. Mrs.S. A. Lawrence, of Iron Street, is a sister. Besides the widow, Mr. Cauffield is survived by the following children: Cassandra, wife of Edward Yaminitsky, of the Fourteenth Ward; John A.,Jr., of Lorain, O.; Daisy, wife of Joseph Settlemeyer, of the Twenty-first Ward; Robert F. of Dibert Street; Arvilla, at home; Sarah Esther, wife of Ralph Hunt, of Lower Yoder, and Isabella and Priscilla Cauffield, at home. Funeral services will be held Friday from the home. The Rev. H. B. Seese, pastor of the Tanneryville United Evangelical Church, will have charge.
