"Basil Eugene Pittman Sr., 79, Big Cove Tannery [Fulton Co, PA], died Thursday, March 4, 2010, at his home. Born March 13, 1930, in Kansas City, [Jackson Co.] Mo., he was the son of the late Harry E. Pittman Sr. and Lillian E. Surber Pittman. He was a veteran of the USMC, serving during the Korean War. He retired in 1984 from Letterkenny Army Depot. He was a member of the Damascus Christian Church, where hew as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He is survived by his wife Norma L. Mellott Pittman, whom he married June 11, 1952, in Hagerstown; one daughter, Carol L. Exline, Big Cove Tannery; one son, Basil E. Pittman Jr., Newburg, Pa.; three sisters: Juniata Harmison, Berkeley Springs; Virginia Kinsley, Pensacola, Fla., and Jo Ann Thomas, Dunedin, Fla.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers: Howard, Claude H., Richard, Harry Jr., Raymond, William and Donald Pittman. Services were held Sunday, March 7, at 2:00 p.m., at Damascus Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery. Rev. Loy A. Garber officiated. Burial with military graveside services by Tri-State Honor Guard was made in Antioch Christian Cemetery. Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, was in charge of arrangements."
