Ebenezer Baptist Church. Marriage bond, 18 March 1795, gives name
BROOKES- all later records are BROOKS. Marriage bond signed by Thomas
THOMAS, evidently Elizabeth's brother. Census of 1800
shows Jeremiah and Elizabeth with three children, and their family is
listed through the 1870 census in Person. From the 1850 census
Thomas THOMAS was living with Jeremiah. In 1805 a deed from Lord
Granville shows purchase of their farm near Leasburg, and they
bought more land through the years.

Richard's mother was Sarah Florence Brooks, (d/o Haywood L. Brooks) a nd George W. Brown. When Richard was orphaned,in 1908, he was reared by H aywood and Millie Brooks. According to Newton Brooks, memo states that Je remiah was s/o David.
