Here is a beginning - rather interesting reading regarding the Pierce family: http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=lockwd&id=I081495
Root(s) in Civil War - from Blackberry, Kane IL
Your ancestors George and Eunice Root of Blackberry, Kane IL, had 3 sons who served in the Civil War - Union Stephen J, born ca 1843, enlisted in Co. D of the 52nd IL Infantry on 19 Nov. 1861. He died 7 Aug. 1862 (I am guessing at the siege of Corinth; however his gravestone is in Blackberry IL). You are so good at doing Civil War research that I am sure you know how to look up the history of the 52nd IL Infantry. Arthur N. Root, ca 1845, enlisted in Co. B, 17th Cavalry Regiment IL on 5 Jan 1864 and was discharged 15 Dec. 1865 in Leavenworth KS Samuel P. Root, ca 1847, enlisted in Co. B - same as above on 29 Dec. 1863 - discharged with brother Arthur. This info was found on ancestry.com "American Civil War Soldiers" Just thought you would like to do a bit of war research on you very own ancestors.
