    Eva Albertse (Andriessen) was the daughter of Albert Andriessen ofFredrikstad, Norway. She ar rived in company with her parents and two brothers at New Amsterdam on March 4, 1637. She liv ed with them in thevicinity of the present Albany where she, in October 1647, was married t o Anthony de Hooges, one of the leading men of the colony ofRensselaerwyck.

    After his death, she was married to Roeloff Swarthout on August 73, 1657.He later became sher iff of the present county of a Ulster in New York.The following is a translation of the marri age contract between Eva andher second husband, Roeloff:

    "In the name of the Lord, Amen, be it known by the contents of thispresent instrument, that i n the year 1657, on the 13th day of the monthof August, appeared before me, Johannes La Monta gne, in the service ofthe General Privileged West India Company, deputy at Fort Orange andvil lage of Beverwyck, Roeloff Swarthout, in the presence of his father,Thomas Swarthout, on th e ..., and Eva Albertsen (Bratt), widow of thelate Anthony de Hooges, in the presence of Albe rt Andriessen (Bratt), herfather of the other side, who in the following manner have covenate d thismarriage contract, to wit, that for the honor of God the said RoeloffSwarthout and Ev a Albertsen after the manner of the Reformed religionrespectively held by them shall marry; s econdly, that the said marriedpeople shall contribute and bring together all their estates, p ersonaland real, of whatsoever nature they may be, to be used by them in common,according t o the custom of Holland, except that the bride, Eva Albertsen,in presence of the orphanmaster s, recently chosen, to wit, for Maricken,Anneken, Catrina, Johannes and Elnora de Hooges, fo r which sum of onehundred guilders for each child respectively (she) mortgages the houseand l ot, lying here in the village of Beverwyck; it was also covenated,by these presents, by the m utual consent of the aforewritten marriedpeople, that Barent Albertse (Bratt) and Teunis Slin gerland, brother andbrother in-law of the said Eva Albertse, and uncle of said children,shoul d be guardians of said children, to which the aforesaidorphanmasters have consented; which ab ove written contract the respectiveparties promise to hold good, on pledge of their persons a nd estates,personal and real, present and future, the same submitting to all lawsand judges.
