Also, my best bed, bedstead, and Virgini a cloth curtains (the same that stand in my best bedroom) , my quilted blue-and-white quilt, and my best dressing gla ss. «b»Item«/b». \emdash I give and devise to my son, Charle s Washington, my negro man, Tom, to him and his assigns for ever. «b»Item«/b». \emdash I give and devise to my daughter, Bet ty Lewis, my phaeton and bay horse. «b»Item«/b». \emdash I give and devise to my daughter-in-l aw, Hannah Washington, my purple cloth cloak lined with sha g. «b»Item«/b». \emdash I give and devise to my grandson, Cor bin Washington, my negro wench, old Bet, my riding chair, a nd two black horses, to him and his assigns forever. «b»Item«/b». \emdash I give and devise to my grandson, Fie lding Lewis, my negro man, Frederick, to him and his assign s forever; also eight silver tablespoons, half of my crocke ry ware and the blue and white tea china, with book case, o val table, one bedstead, one pair sheets, one pair blanket s and white cotton counterpane, two table cloths, six red l eather chairs, half my pewter and one-half of my iron kitch en furniture. «b»Item«/b». \emdash I give and devise to my grandson, Law rence Lewis, my negro wench, Lydia, to him and his assign s forever. «b»Item«/b». \emdash I give and devise to my granddaughter , Betty Carter, my negro woman, little Bet, and her futur e increase, to her and her assigns forever; also my larges t looking glass, my walnut writing desk with drawers, a squ are dining table, one bed, bedstead, bolster, one pillow, o ne blanket and pair of sheets, white Virginia cloth counter pane and purple curtains, my red-and-white tea china, teasp oons, and the other half of my pewter, crockery ware, and t he remainder of my iron kitchen furniture. «b»Item«/b». \emdash I give to my grandson, George Washing ton, my next best dressing glass, one bed, bedstead, bolste r, one pillow, one pair sheets, one blanket and counterpane . «b»Item«/b». \emdash I devise all my wearing apparel to b e equally divided between my granddaughters, Betty Carter , Fannie Ball; and Milly Washington; but should my daughter , Betty Lewis, fancy any one, two, or three articles, she i s to have them before a division thereof. «b»Lastly.«/b» \emdash I nominate and appoint my said son , General George Washington, executor of this, my will and , as I owe few or no debts, I direct my executor to give n o security nor to appraise my estate, but desire the same m ay be allotted to my devisees, with as little trouble and d elay as may be, desiring their acceptance thereof as all th e token I now have to give them of my love for them In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal thi s 20th day of May, 1788.

Note: In his will Joseph Ball left Mary three slaves, 15 head o f cattle, and "all the feathers in the kitchen loft to be p ut into a bed for her." She also received 400 acres of lan d further up river at Little Falls Run (today in Stafford C ounty, Virginia).
When her mother died she received half of her furnishings , most of her mothers clothes, two gold rings and a "good p acing horse". Within a few months her older half-brother , John Johnson, also died and she received the 600 acres le ft by their step-father Richard Hues. 4
