Note: There is a grave marker in Moody's Chapel Cemetery in Altoona, Etowah Co., Alabama for Thomas Nails Brothers. It says: Pvt NC Militia Revolutionary War 1760-1837. This is a relatively new marker placed by the military at the request of a family member who has basic facts about the soldier. Does anyone know who requested this marker and where they got their info? Was there an original headstone? The gravesite must have been moved from somewhere else, because the cemetery was founded well after Thomas' death (probably 50 years or so after). I think Thomas is the key to Caleb Brothers (SC,AL,AR) parentage. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
I also found a Surveyors map Family History Center Film 22611, Vol 38 p 55: Stating the following:"S Carolina, I do hereby certify for Thomas Brothers a tract of land containing three hundred and ninety nine acres surveyed for him, the 2 November 1813. Situate in Colleton District, St Georges Parish-Dorchester on Tenors Branch water of Cypress Swamp and hath such shape, form, mark, buttings and boundings as above plat represents given under my hand this 12 November 1813. William Clark Surveyor General, Nathaniel Lawrence, Deputy Surveyor"------ It has a diagrahm and the land is surrounded by small amt of vacant land, John Giohany??, more of Thomas Brothers Land, Mr Ervins Land, PhilipGrohams land. The names are hard to read on my copy from the microfilm. Glenda
