    OTIS, Rose, née en 1677 (s), originaire de la région de Dover, comté de Strafford au New-Hampshire de l'union de Richard Otis (1626-1689), forgeron, et de Shuah Starbruck-Head. Ses parents s'étaient mariés à Dover peu avant 1677. Le 8 juillet 1689, Rose Otis et son frère sont faits prisonniers lors de l'attaque de Cocheco par les Francais et les Abénaquis. Rose Otis passe quelques années en captivité dans des bourgades indiennes où elle est baptisée par un prêtre-missionnaire sous le nom de Françoise-Rose Otis (acte perdu). Vers 1693, elle est rachetée par des Français et se retrouve comme domestique dans une famille de Beauport dont nous ne connaissons pas le nom. Le 29 octobre 1696, Rose Otis épouse a Beauport, Jean Poitevin dit Laviolette, né en 1672 a Charlesbourg, fils de Jean Poitevin et de Madeleine Guillaudeau (C. J.R. Duprac, 08-10-1696). Dès son mariage, le couple Poitevin s'établit à Charlesbourg où naissent douze enfants entre 1696 et 1722. En mai 1710. Rose Otis obtient sa nationalité française. En juin 1729. elle est hospitalisée à l'Hôtel-Dieu de Québec puis décède a Charlesbourg le 6 juillet suivant. Son mari épouse en secondes noces, Renée Desnivières a Québec le 10 avril 1731. Jean Poitevin décède le 4 février 1 752 a Charlesbourg.     TRANSLATION: OTIS, Rose, born in 1677 (s), originating in the area of Dover, county of Strafford in New Hampshire of the union of Richard Otis (1626-1689), blacksmith, and of Shuah Starbruck-Head. Her parents were married in Dover just before 1677. On July 8, 1689, Rose Otis and her brother were taken prisoners at the time of the attack on Cocheco by the French and the Abénaquis Indians. Rose Otis spent a few years in captivity in Indian villages where she was baptized with the name, Françoise-Rose Otis, by a priest-missionary (lost act). About 1693, she was ransomed by the French and was [later] noted as a domestic in a Beauport, the name of which is not known. On October 29, 1696, Rose Otis married in Beauport, Jean Poitevin dit Laviolette, born in 1672 at Charlesbourg, son of Jean Poitevin and Madeleine Guillaudeau (C J.R. Duprac, 08-10-1696). After her marriage, the couple Poitevin settled in Charlesbourg where twelve children were born between 1696 and 1722. In May 1710, Rose Otis obtained her French citizenship. In June 1729, she was hospitalized at the Hôtel-Dieu de Quebec and soon thereafter died at Charlesbourg on 6 July. Her husband married a second time to Renée Desrivières of Quebec on April 10, 1731. Jean Poitevin died on February 4,1752 at Charlesbourg.
