Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Oak Street Baptist Church in Graham with the Rev. Kent Barnes of Piggott, Ark., the Rev. Edgar Jones of Graham, and Dallas Becker, grandson of Mr. Phillips, officiating. Burial will follow in Pioneer Cemetery in Graham. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home. Mr. Phillips was born June 9, 1924, in Blossom, Texas, to the late Floyd Franklin and Molly (Maroney) Phillips. He married Elizabeth Elnora Gathings December 8, 1990, at Westlake Chapel at Possum Kingdom Lake. He was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during WWII, a member of the VFW and a retired pumper for Spindletop Oil and Gas. Survivors include his wife, Beth Phillips of Graham; two daughters, Dianne Fuqua of Phoenix, Ariz. and Gail Barnes and her husband Kent of Piggott, Ark.; a son, Max Phillips and his wife Becky of Austin; two stepdaughters, Beverly Ford and her husband Joe Jr. and Brenda Cutburth and her husband Randall, both of Graham; a stepson, Allen Gathings and his wife Lee of McAllen, Texas; two sisters, Bonnie Goforth of Wichita Falls and Myrtle Hamilton of Bridgeport, Texas; a brother, Nobel Harvey "Gene" of Wichita Falls, Texas; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. A twin brother John Floyd Phillips and his first wife Bonnie (Fuqua) Phillips preceded him in death.
