Obituary-Arthur C. Toothaker
Arthur C. "Shorty" Toothaker, Wamego, died Monday, Oct. 2, 1989, at a Wamego nursing home.
Mr. Toothaker was a farmer and had worked for the Pottawatomie County Highway Department Several years.
He was born Dec. 11, 1904, in Sherman Township south of Wheaton, the son of Edward and Nora Clark Toothaker, and lived in the Wheaton community most of his life.
Mr. Toothaker was a member of Wheaton Congregational United Church of Christ, and was an honorary deacon at the church.
He was active in Senior Citizens at Onaga, Wheaton and Westmoreland and was instrumental in organizing the Old Timers Band. He also had been a board member of the former Wheaton schools.
He was married to Verna R. Graf Feb. 12, 1929, at Westmoreland. She died July 2, 1988.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Beth McGrath, Camdenton, Mo., Mrs. Ruth Keating, Wamego, Mrs. Nancy Griffin, Topeka, Ks.; Ireta Schwant, Blaine, and Mrs. Jean Brazell, Albion, Nebr.; a brother, Chester Toothaker, Wamego; 13 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren.
Services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Wheaton Congregational United Church of Christ. Burial was in Wheaton Congregational Cemetery.
