SAD ACCIDENT
"We learn that Mr. Elijah TURNER, near Grassy Pond, SC, was killed
on Friday last [12 Aug. prs], by being thrown from his horse, while
returning from church. He was eight-six years of age, a man of
considerable wealth, and much respected. Mrs. ELLIS, his daughter,
was in company with him. Her mule took flight and scared her fathers's
horse. Mrs. ELLIS' thigh was broken."

Grassy Pond, Spartanburg Co. SC. Located on present day 150 Hwy, abt 3
miles from Gaffney, Cherokee Co., SC. in the Grassy Pond Community although

BUFFALO BAPTIST CHURCH RECORDS: Found in the Baptist Historical Collection
at Furnman University & there are records in the secured vault at the
C & S Bank, in Gaffney, Cherokee Co., SC. Located abt one mile South of the
North Carolina state line, that show Elijah TURNER was a member, Deacon,
and a delegate to the Broad River Baptist Association for many years.
