In memory of my Dad, Duell Franklin 'Frank' Beard who passed away 27 July 2009 in Ogden, Weber County, Utah. He loved his family and he also loved to do family history. I am sure going to miss you Daddy, love you always and forever. Also to my Aunt Helen, Daddy's sister (and other mother) who followed him just a month later, she missed her Toggy Boy...

NOTES: Henry GenForum: Posted by: Tom Gede (tomgede@ix.netcom.com) February 21, 2000
Here's some additional information on the James Henry, father of Samuel Henry, discussed in my last posting. From a compilation "My Henry Family," no author noted:
Chester Co., Pennsylvania, Deed Book 2, 28, pp. 109-111, lists a Samuel Henry (who lived in Chester Co. as early as 1749), recorded a will, 28 August 1788, which mentions sons William Henry, JAMES HENRY (who married AGNES), Samuel Henry, and Ebenezer Henry and daughters Catherine Henry (who married Alexander Martin), Jean Henry (who married Thomas Cowan), Margaret Henry, and Mary Henry. Another source I saw and will re-locate suggested that this Chester Co., PA, "JAMES HENRY (who married AGNES)" is the same as the James Henry who married Agnes Mitchell, moved to So. Carolina , and is the father of the Samuel Henry who married Mary Bramer.

In my family history I find a James Henry that married an Agnes. I do not have an exact birth date for him but his father Samuel died in Penn in 1773. He had a brother Samuel who is my ancestor. This information comes in part from an entry found which reads "Found in Chester Co Court house, West Chester, Pa. " It is the transfer of property following the death of Samuel Henry who died intestate in 1773. It lists the children as William, his eldest son, James, Samuel, Ebenezer, Catherine, Jean, Margaret and Mary. This is found in full in deed bk. D 2 Vol 28. p 109 -111 23 July 1788
The Family member who did this Family history compiled it between 1957 and 1977 and obviously without the help of computers so there are errors in some of the dates but other than that I have found her accurate. 4/6/02 Dorothy sent three scanned pages from "Out of the Past, Our Henry's Samuel Henry and Other Henry's" by Elsie Margaret (Tibbils) Smith which includes the text of a deed from the Chester County Court House, West Chester , PA. Deed Bk. D2, Vol 28, p. 109-111 dated 23 Jul 1788: Thos. Penn and Richard Penn. Proprietors of Penna. by their Patent 14 Dec 1749 conveyed unto Samuel Henry late of West Caln, dec'd., father of William Henry of West Caln Twp, Chester Co., a certain tract of land in the said township containing 227 acres, recorded at Philadelphia in Patent Bk. A, Vol. 14, p. 273 and the said Samuel Henry being so seized and died Intestate and leaving issue William, his eldest son, James, Samuel, Ebenezer and daughters Catharine who mar. Alexander Martin; Jean who mar. Thomas Cowin; Margaret and Mary Henry and Whereas James Henry & Agnes his wife; Samuel Henry; Ebenezer Henry; Catherine Henry alias Martin and Alexander Martin her husband; Jean Henry alias Cowan and Thomas Cowan her husband; Margaret Henry and Mary Henry did sell unto their brother William Henry their interest in the above described land and Whereas the said William did sell a certain Vincent Cromwell a part of said tract Now this indenture witnesseth that William Henry doth grant unto William Clingan the remainder of said tract containing 115 acres.

NOTES: With the above info this next info here in this note makes me wonder if our James really did go to VA before going to SC. He appears to have been from Halifax County, Virginia. He then moved to York County, South Carolina before the Revolutionary War. Sometime after the war he moved to Logan County, Kentucky were he died. His son Samuel and daughter Mary with their families moved to Livingston County now Crittenden County, Kentucky from York County, South Carolina in about 1803 or 1804.

NOTES: By 1820 there are NO Henry's listed in the census records for Pendleton District, South Carolina.
