NOTES: According to J. B. Hitt at jbhitt@att.net James Dickey Elder did marry and had eight children. If James Dickey Elder did marry then the following census records are him and his wife and children. However, this James D. Elder is never listed as a minister in the occupation field in the census records. So I (Vickie Beard Thompson) am leaning towards the fact that James D. Elder and James Dickey Elder are two different people and that only James Dickey Elder is related to me and not James D. Elder. From what I have found the Elder family in Lincoln County, Kentucky is not related to my Elder line of Livingston and Crittenden Counties in Kentucky. I am beginning to think that this Elder family is the correct line of James D. Elder and if so he would not be related to me and my Elder line. For now I am leaning towards the fact that James Elder and Sarah Rusk were the parents of James D. Elder who married Margaret Dodd. Sarah Elder is widowed and has a son in the right age category in 1820, but none of the other Elder's in 1820 have a son in that age bracket. James D. Elder could be the young man in the 20 to 30 age bracket in 1840 living with his uncle Robert Elder in 1840 in Lincoln County, Kentucky. I will still need to do more checking to be sure though. Father: James ELDER b: ABT 1766 in , York, Pennsylvania, USA Mother: Sarah RUSK b: ABT 1778 in , , Virginia, USA Marriage 1 Margaret E. DODD b: ABT 1820 in , Lincoln, Kentucky, USA
