Page: 15 Text: "The fine old house on the Jamestown farm that has for many years been known as the 'Homestead' was quite certainly built by this Nicholas. A board bearing the legend '1776' was found some years ago in this house. This legend was thought for many years to refer to the year that the house was built. In fact it became known as the '1776 House'. Recent expert examination of the building yields the fact that it was buillt around 1700 which lines up with the family tradition that Nicholas built it as a wedding gift for his son, Thomas."
