    FYI

I recently copied the marriage of Thomas STORY & Margaret CARR on Octob er 25, 1739.

Please note that her father is given as John KARR, also of Middlesex Co; a nd listed as a husbandman.

Eric the Red was from Munich?? Nah! :-) There are a bunch of name variatio ns and national roots: Carr, Kerr, Ker, Karr, Kaar, Gehr, etc. The Kerr va riation goes back to Scotland. Carr is usually English or Irish, but typic ally originates in Kerr and Scotland. Some Carrs descend from Karr, whi ch can derive from Gehr, which is German. (There is a big line in West Vir ginia with Karr/German roots.)

My records show that Walter Ker had five sons. Interesting to note that h is wife was Margaret, giving some support to your linkage of your Margar et Carr to Walter, as family names seem to run downline in those old famil ies. And the Middlesex Co link is logical because Walter landed at Perth A mboy, which is in Middlesex Co, although he settled in Monmouth Co.

There could have been a number of Carrs, Kerrs, et al in that area. The re was a Rhode Island Monmouth Association which was trying to settle cent ral NJ at the time, and it had Carr links in Newport and Jamestown. The Qu akers were active in Shrewsbury, NJ (Monmouth Co) and south in Burlingt on Co NJ, and there were quite a few Quaker Carrs in RI and on Long Isla nd who moved among the Quaker communities in NJ.

If you prove a link, I'd be quite interested in what you find. I live ne ar the Monmouth Co Library in Manalapan and go there occasionally to d ig in their records. If I come across something that fits, I'll try to g et it to you.

    > That sounds like what I have; if I understand you correctly. My info sa ys that Walter KER of Old Tennent Chuch was Scottish; but that his ancesto rs came from French Normandy; but that their ancestors were originally vik ings! (German Vikings???)
