    Subject: Carr ancestry

I am looking for the parents of Maria Carr who was married to Samuel McComas.
She was born 2/27/1811 in New Richmond, IN and died there in 1859.
Samuel McComas was my great-great grandfather.
Thank you. I would appreciate anything you have to offer.

REPLY: Maria was born in Ohio, according to the 1850 census. The first whites to settle what became Montgomery County, Indiana didn't arrive until 1821 and New Richmond wasn't platted until 1836, so she wasn't born there as the town didn't even exist then.

The kids were born in Ohio between 1833 and 1839, then in Indiana beginning in 1841.

The family could have been on the move in 1840 census, presumably westward. I note for the record that there's a Samuel McComes enumerated in the 1840 census in Oil City, PA (Crawford Co) with half a dozen people named Karr. The enumeration information seems incomplete as there are no males listed at all, so maybe the enumerations are incorrect and that is your line? Seems doubtful overall. Oil City was an oil boom town but not until the late 1850s, so it seems unlikely they would have moved east to that little corner of God's country in 1840. Keep spelling variations like Karr in mind all the same. Maria could be a German family and she could be second or third generation Karr or Kaar.

I have info on a sister Janetta Carr who married Samuel McComas's brother. Maybe that line will help you figure out the Carr ancestry.
