Services for James M. Mason, 88, of Slaton will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007, in Englunds Chapel, with military graveside honors in Slaton's Englewood Cemetery and under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service.
Mr. Mason passed from this life Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, in Slaton. He was born Aug. 23, 1919, in Garza County. He graduated from Post High School in 1939 and entered Naval military service. He was a corpsman at Pearl Harbor when Japan attacked, and was on ship that landed personnel during the final WWII Theater, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Jim also served overseas during the Korean War and retired in 1959.
He married Pauline Baker in Southland on Sept. 17, 1943. Pauline preceded him in death on Sept. 13, 2006.
After his military retirement Jim was a building contractor.
Jim is survived by his children, Mike of Slaton and Mickey Cole of Lubbock; two grandchildren, Barrett and Melody Miles of Houston and Sherry Smith of Wichita Falls; and two great-grandchildren, Darrius and Kyla Smith.
The family will have visitation at the funeral home today from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
