  • Name: Henry MAXWELL 1 2
  • Sex: M
  • Change Date: 22 JUN 2010
  • Birth: ABT 1730 in Wigtonshire & Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland
  • Note:
We have this tradition of the Maxwell name:
Some Scottish chieftains were telling of their wonderful deeds and displ aying the trophies of the hunt, and one of them placed before the compan y a very large head of a wild boar and told of the immense size of the an imal that he had killed. They could not believe that such a large anima l had been found, and accepting their challenge, this chieftain went ou t and came back bringing with him the body of the animal and placed it be side the head. They all said that it "matched well", and he was ever aft erward called by the name of Matchwell, which in later years took the for m that we have today--Maxwell.
"Family tradition asserts that Henry Maxwell was born in Scotland,
perhaps about the year 1731, or 1730, and that he was brought to this co untry by his uncle, Walter Carson, about the year 1741." E.F.
