    William de Willoughby, 4th Lord Willoughby, eldest son an d heir, and only son by 1st wife, succeeded as Baron Willou ghby of Eresby, which title continuedin the family until an no 1506, when it was carried by an heir female to the famil y of Bertie, ancestor of the present Duke of Ancaster. He s ucceeded as Baron in 1396 and was summoned to Parliament 13 97-1410, in which year he died.He married 1st Lucy, daughte r of Roger, Baron Strange, and had Robert, Thomas, Margaret , Elizabeth and Eleanor; 2nd Joane, daughter of Sir Thoma s Hollandand his wife Joan, the Fair Maid of Kent, by who m he had an only daughter, Margaret or Margery. He was 24 y ears old at the death of his father, and in 1399 he was on e of the peers in Parliament, 22nd of Richard II, when tha t King made his formal resignation of his royal dignity. I n 2nd of Henry IV, 1403, he was retained to attend the Kin g in his expedition into Scotland, with three knights besid e himself, 27 men at arms, 169 archers, and continue from J une to September ensuing.     William de Willoughby, 5th Lord (Baron) Willoughby de Eresb y, KG (c 1401); born c1370; assisted usurpation of Duke o f Lancaster (later Henry IV) 1399 and attended the abdicati on of Richard II in the Tower of London 29 Sep 1399; marrie d 1st by 23 April 1383 Lucy, daughter of 5th Lord (Baron) S trange (of Knockyn); married 2nd after 1 Aug 1402 but befor e 9 Aug 1404, as the 2nd of her four husbands, Joan, siste r and coheir of 4th/6th and last Earl of Kent of the 1321 c reation, and died 4 Dec 1409, having by his 1st wife had, w ith four daughters (including Margery, married 14 Nov 1406 , 5th Lord (Baron) FitzHugh and had issue).
