Their home was in Griggstown, on the west bank of the Mills tone River, in Somerset County, NJ, being the homestead pro perty bought originally by his grandfather, Christopher (6 ) in 1739. He waas appointed Justice of the Peace for Some rset County, by Gov. Livingston, in 1776, and two years aft erward be was elected to the Legislature. His brethern o f the Reformed Church at Six Mile Run elected him to the of fice of elder, and in later years, 1786, 1790, and 1791, h e filled the save office at the Harlingen Church.

He was buried in the family burying ground on his farm, wit hin sight of the house. The inscription upon the plain mem orial stone tells o f his birth and death, adding truly, "T he memory of the just is blessed".
