Note: Harold Bluetooth Gormson (Danish Harald Blåtand, Norwegia n Harald Blåtann) (ca 911- November 1, 987), sometimes Haro ld II, succeeded his father Gorm the Old as king of Denmar k in 935 (or 940) and king of Norway in 936.
Invading Normandy in 945 in support of Richard the Fearless , Harold's forces took the French king Louis IV prisoner an d forced his recognition of Richard's rule. Harold subseque ntly controlled Norway for a time.
Although his predecessors had accepted Christianity at th e instigation of the Frankish Carolingian kings in 826, man y Danes and other northerners were still heathens for centu ries. Harald Bluetooth was (again ?) forced to accept Chris tianity, following defeat (972) by the Holy Roman emperor O tto the Great. Otto had already founded many bishoprics inc luding Schleswig, Ribe and Aarhus on the Jutland Peninsula . After his conversion to Christianity, Harold remained a f aithful ally of the empire. Otto the Great died in 983 an d Harold made his way to the Eider river, but he had to tak e refuge at Jomsburg in northern Germany when he was fough t by not yet christianized Danes. Harold died in battle aga inst the forces of his son and successor Sweyn.
Harold may have had three wives or consorts: Thora, Gunhild e and Gyrid (the niece of the Swedish king Eric the Victori ous). He had four children: Håkon, Sweyn, Gunhild and Tyr a (who married Styrbjörn Starke).
The Bluetooth interface for wireless Personal Area Network s developed by Ericsson is named after Harold. The Bluetoot h logo consists of the Nordic runes for his initials, H an d B.

Alias: Herbastus /de Apparently there is no evidenc e of what the name was of the father of Gunnor, Senfrie, He rfast, and Avelina. AncestralRoots states he was a foreste r of Arque. He was not of Crepon, but later genealogists mi stakenly thought the family was of Crepon because Herbastus ' son, Herfast, received lands in Crepon, probably due to t he relationship of hissister with Duke Richard. I will leav e the "de Crepon" name with the family, just as I have th e Plantagenet name with that family, although the Plantagen ets were not known by that name until Richard, Duke of Yor k in the 1400's.
Harald refused to accept the crown until he had first perfo rmed hisfather's obsequies with all the magnificence becomi ng his high rank. One of his earliest was the conquest of N orway, which became a province of Denmark. Styrbear, King o f Sweden, solicited the aid of King Harold in one of his wa rs, and to enforce his request he brought along with him Gy ntha, his sister, a lady of admirable beauty. The stratage m had the intended effect; Harold Bluetooth became enamore d and married her. The progress of Christianity gained som e headway during his reign, and the King received baptism , and erected a splendid church. His daughter Gunilda marri ed Richard I, Duke of Normandy.
