H e is referenced in the will of Michael Sheely on 5 Oct 178 4 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.(3) He resided in 18 06 in Jefferson County, West Virginia. He moved to Silvercr eek Township, Greene County, Ohio in 1810. He died in 182 0 in Greene County, Ohio. He was buried in Sheley Cemetery , Silvercreek Township, Greene County, Ohio. (4) There Is S ome Belief That John, Sr. Did Not Serve in the Revolutionar y War, but rather his son, John, Jr. who died in Kentucky i n 1825.

Edward Stoker being commited to the Goal of this County b y virtue of a receipt under the hand of John Hardin, Gent . one of his Majesties Justices of the Peace for this Count y for feloniously stealing two ma res one of these the prop erty of Thomas Balch of the sd County the other belonging t o a person unknown. And the Evidences for Our Sovereig n L ord the King Viz. Thomas Balch, John Connell, Rober t Thorn, John Sheely, Elizabeth Martin and Joseph Hill wer e sworn and examined and on consideration of the Evidence s and circumstances, it is the opinion of this Court that t he sd Edward Stoker is guilty of the Felony with whi ch h e stands charged and ought to be tryed for the sme at the G eneral Co urt and in order thereto he is remanded to the Go al of this County to be removed thence to the Publick Goa l at Williamsburg according to law a nd it is ordered tha t the depositions and all papers relating to the s d fact b e returned to the Secretary's office.
John Sheely lived in Berkeley Co., Virginia until 1810, the n moved to Greene County, Ohio locating in Silvercreek Town ship.
John died 1820 or 1822 in Greene County and is buried in th e Sheley Cemetery. [Rankin.FTW]
There is some belief that John, Sr. did not serve in the Re volutionary War, but rather his son, John, Jr. who died i n Kentucky in 1825. He leased two tracts containing 100 acres and 75 acres fro m his father-in-law, William Davis, located on a Branch o f the Shenandoah River called Evats Run. The release transf erring ownership was written 17 March 1768. Both document s were recorded 2 Aug 1768. 22d day of June 1751 for the examination of Edward Stoker f or stealing two mares.
