There is a story about William Davis McDonald in the first Madison County History book. Th e first paragraph says: William Davis McDonald, born in 1840, died in 1916, was born in Laude rdale County, Alabama and came to the Palestine, Texas area about 1841 with his parents, Jame s M. McDonald and Mary Collins, daughter of Wm. J. and Cynthia Collins. A brother and siste r born in Texas were: James Martin McDonald, born 1842, died 1930, and Matilda J. McDonald, b orn in 1844. Their father died and their mother married a man named Boykin and had twin boys , Francis M. and John D., born 1846. Mary Collins McDonald Boykin died and these five youn g children were brought to Madison County before 1850 by their grandmother, Cynthia Collins , and their uncle, Louis Davis Collins, who reared the children. Louis Davis Collins serve d for a time as County Clerk of Madison County and then went to Jackson, Mississippi for hi s medical education.& nbsp; He returned to Madisonville and practiced medicine for a number o f years before moving to Burnet County, Texas with his wife, Sara J. (Sally) and their family .
This story was submitted by Katherine Webb Smith, a granddaughter of W. D. McDonald. I don' t know her and suspect that she has died. The book was published in 1986. That's all I coul d find on your Collins family, although there is more about the McDonald and Boykin children . There isn't anything in the second history book.
