Note: The following information was scecured from Mrs. Thomas M. Maze (maiden name, Nola Martin, daughter of Felix Martin) in May 1953 at Goreville, Illinois at her home. Minister, General Baptist Church, preached at Friendship Church, 3 miles out of Goreville. Felix Martin is buried in the Busby Cemetery just outside Goreville. He was a soldier in the Civil War and there is a Government Monument on his grave. His Mother, Mrs. Hannah McCollough Martin is also buried in the same Cemetery, but her grave is unmarked. Felix Martin had a brother, Drury D. Martin who died near Walnut Hill, Illinois, which is in the vicinity of Centralia, Illinois at about the age of 90 years. He was believed to be buried in the Centralia Cemetery. There were four brothers who served in the Civil War. They were Felix Martin, Drury Martin, Isaac Martin and Joel Martin. Felix Martin, enlisted at Anna, Illinois and served three full years in the Civil War and was gone the entire time, except for one trip he made home shortly after enlistment and then never came home again the entire three years. His first child was born while he was away fighting in the War. Nola Martin was born September 28, 1873. She was the daughter of Felix Martin and Louisa Jane Craig, a daughter of SMith Craig who lived 3/4 mile outside of the town of Goreville. Nola Martin had several brothers and sisters. Her oldest brother was William Henry Martin, born Sept. 15, ____. Her next oldest brother was James Wesley Martin. Her oldest sister was Sarah Jane Martin. Nola says there were several childeren who died in infancy, one, at least one boy between William Henry and James Wesley, and one little girl died aged five days who is buried in Busby Cemetery. Nola had one brother named Samuel, who is still living near Goreville and gets his mail at Goreville. Nola had a sister, Daisy who is now Mrs. Brown. The youngest sister's name was Della Martin. She lives in Bay City, Michigan. She is Mrs. Adam Schwab. Nola said that her youngest brother was Samuel McCullough Martin, who still lives in Goreville. Nola further stated that her father was born in March 1833. She remembered this because he kept a piece of money with this date on it and often remarded that was the year in which he was born. Nola said that most of her brothers and her own children went to college. Her father, Felix Martin farmed and preached. Her husband, Mr. Thomas M. Maze also was a farmer. In 1890 Hannah McCullough Martin was living with Felix, her son. Mrs. Maze says she lived with Felix Martin as far back as she can remember and died about 1896 or 97. She can remember this date because it was the first year of Mrs. Maze's married life.
