Note: COURIER JOURNAL OBITUARY – 10/06/1970 The body of James J. Sils, 44, who drowned Friday night when his boat collided with a barge on the Ohio River, was recovered yesterday. The Kentucky Rescue Association found the body at 11:15 a.m. on the Indiana side of the river, about 300 feet from where the accident occurred near Hughes Bar Light, about four miles downstream from Louisville. Deputy Coroner Lloyd Roemele ruled the death an accidental drowning. Sils, who lived at 2135 Portland, was owner and operator of the Sportsman Club, 4801 W. Market. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Shawnee Post 3204, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Kennedy; a daughter, Miss Sharon A. Sils; and two sons, James M. and Martin A. Sils. The funeral will be at 9 a.m. tomorrow at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1301 W. Market, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. The body will be at Ratterman's, 2114 W. Market, after 10 a.m. today.
