    MONTICELLO — Richard Dennis Heath, 70, of Monticello died 7:10 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 30, 2004) in his home.

    Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Monticello United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jerry Reed officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services in the church. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Monticello United Methodist Church or The Tom Dixon Scholarship Fund for Kirby Hospital Auxiliary.

    Mr. Heath was born Sept. 18, 1934, in Champaign, the son of John H. and Dorothy Templin Heath. Mr. Heath was a retired industrial education teacher. He taught in Martinsville, Bement and Urbana High School. At Urbana High School, he was the first teacher for the Building Trades Program and he taught many evening classes there. After retirement, he worked at H&R Bolck in Monticello and did many handyman projects for others. He was a life member of the National Education Association. He was also a life member of Kirby Hospital Auxiliary and was currently serving as treasurer. He was a committee member of Piatt County Platt Committee for the Piatt County Zoning Board. He was a member and currently serving as chairman and treasurer of the Monticello United Methodist Church Board of Trustees. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, playing pool and the Cubs. He married Paula Gwinn on Feb. 17, 1956, in Charleston.

    Surviving are his wife; daughters, Pamela Schleifer of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Janice Perri of Roanoke, Va.; Leslie Mitchell of White Heath; sons, John Heath of Denver, Colo.; Thomas Heath of Peachtree City, Ga.; eight grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents.
