From the Wayne County Democrat, April 10, 1901: S.W. Christy, aged 60 years, of Chester township, died Monday at the State Hospital at Massillon. The remains were brought home, and the funeral took place last Wednesday forenoon at the family residence near Overton. His wife died about three months ago.
From unidentified newspaper: CHRISTY--S.W. Christy was born in Chester township, Wayne county, O., in 1842, and died April 1, 1901, aged 59 years, 4 months, and 12 days. He was next eldest of the seven children of Peter and Margaret (Hardy) Christy, the others being named as follows: John, Lydia J., Sarah A., David O., Lyman R., and Alexander H. From the old home the father and mother, sister Sarah A. and brothers John and Alexander H. have preceded him to the land of the spirits. Mr. Christy enlisted in the defense of his country in 1862 and was assigned to Company D, 120th O.V.I. He served nine months, when on account of sickness he was obliged to return home. Mr. Christy was married in 1869 to Elizabeth I. Wills, daughter of James Wills, of Wayne county. To them were born five children--two boys and three girls. Herman died at the age of 14, Homer at 11, the mother died about three months before Mr. Christy. So three of his own family have passed through the valley before him. Mr. Christy was a farmer by occupation. A believer in Christianity according to the Presbyterian confession of faith. He was a kind and indulgent father and a good neighbor. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Scott, his pastor, of Congress, on April 3 at his home in Chester township. His body was laid to rest in Congress cemetery, to await the final resurrection of the just. He leaves three daughter--Myrtle, Mary and Laura, one sister and two brothers to mourn his loss.
