  • Note:
From the Wayne County Democrat, 28 May 1902:
    Mrs. Harriet E. Christy
Mrs. Harriet Elizabeth Christy passed from this life to the life beyond, Sabbath evening, May 11th, 1902, at her home near Overton, Ohio. Her age was 47 years and 8 months. Her maiden name was Mackey and was born in East Union township, three miles east of Wooster, where she spent most of her life before her marriage, except six years which were spent with an uncle in Indiana. Her life was comparatively short, for we do not reckon those who die before reaching the age of fifty as being old.
While there seemed to be great need for her here, God wanted her and in His wise counsel removed her from her family and friends.
She was united to in marriage to Mr. David Christy on October 1st, 1883, and spent her whole married life of almost eighteen years in the home in which she died. Beside the sorrow stricken husband, one daughter survives her, and keenly mourns the loss of her mother. Sadie is but seven years of age, and is tenderly commended to God, whose love for little children is expressed in the words of Jesus His Son, who said "Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not, for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven."
Mrs. Christy was brought up in the Applecreek Presybterian Church, where she is baptized. She was a good mother, and faithful wife. She was held in high esteem by all who knew her and her sudden death is a distinct loss to the community, as well as to her family. She was one of whom we might say, in the words of Holy Writ, "Her children rise up and call blessed: her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own work fraise her in the gates."
The funeral was held by Rev. Smith, of Bloomington, who spoke some comforting words, using as text the first three or four verses of the 14th chapter of St. John. Interment in the Wooster cemetery.
The husband desires to thank the kind neighbors and freinds, who came to assist him with kindly ministrations and words of sympathy.
Another soul to God has flown,
And our hearts are sorely riven,
But there's another gem in the Saviour's crown,
    And another soul in Heaven.
    A Friend.
