"Billy" as he was called when he was young & his parents lived in Ada for a while then moved to Fairfax Oklahoma when Bill was in elementry school. They moved back to Ada when Dad was in High School. His senior year his mother died suddenly from a blood clot on the brain. He graduated from Ada High School in 1943.
Dad joined the Army Air Corps right after graduating from High School, his basic training was at Fort Sill Oklahoma, Lackland Air Base in San Antonio, Texas. from there he went to Souix Falls South Dekota. He was in San Fransisco California, ready to be sent over seas when peace was declared. He went to Officers Candiate School while at Lackland Air Base to become a pilot, he went into air traffic control instead, he later did become a pilot.
He married Nell Dean Johnson May 29, 1943 they were divorced in 1946.
June 29 1947 Dad married the love of his life Georgia Eileen Burkhart, they were married 55 yrs when we lost Mom.
Dad was a man of many vocations and had a brilliant mind. He was a Loan Officer & Finance Manager of Yingling Chevrolet in Wichita Kansas. Owned Farmers Ins Agency Wichita, Kansas. He owned Sugg Ford Dealership in Belle Plaine, Kansas. In the 70's he went to Arkansas and started a trenching & mining co., he was the owner of Arkansas Trenching, Excaveting & Mining Co. ATEM was one of the largest coal mining companys in that part of the United States. Dad was instrumental in getting the mining companys to restore the area that had been mined back to usable land. He was with Governor Bill Clinton when he signed the bill into effect May 1987. He retired and moved to Bella Vista Arkansas, where he became one of the lake rangers until about three years ago. He loved people, fishing and his family.
He had a way of telling family stories that kept me spell bound for hours.I am sure he enlightened the story to make it more interesting. He was a man of very high self esteem and very knowledgeable on most any subject. Dad also had such high morals that one time he came to Oklahoma City on business checked into a motel. It was in the evening that he called me, we visited for a while, then I ask him where he was so I could take my daughters to see their grandpa. I was told very quickly and bluntly that since my husband wasn't at home and could not come with me that it was not proper for a lady to go to a motel alone. He didn't want people thinking bad of me.
He was proceeded in death by his wife Eileen on October 1, 2002, his father December 27 1971, his mother April 30, 1943, grand son Keith Allen McHenry July 1, 1992, two sons in law John Baldwin March 21, 1990 & Forrest Best April 11, 1999.
He is survived by daughters Kay Best, Claudia Avery, Linda McHenry, one son Mike Sugg. Eight grandchildren, Tami, Misty, DeeDee, Keli, Berry, Jena, Sean & Dara, eighteen great grandchildren. One brother Allen Sugg, many Nieces, Nephews, & Cousins as well as many extended families and friends. You will always be missed Daddy. Love your Gidget
