This Halifax Co descendency appears to be a conglomeration of several generations of what may be the same family.
Evidence suggests that the Northern Neck Adams family were resident in the area from as early as 1658.
John Adams with wife Katherine (of unknown last name) may have been the son of one William Adams who died in 1677. That John Adams, neighbor to the Norman family, originally lived between the Coan and Wicomico and later owned property at Accokeek, as did his son John Adams Jr. By 1725, the Accokeek property had been sold...and John Adams and his family had migrated upriver to the head of the Occoquan. John Adams Jr was married to a woman named Elizabeth at the time of his death ca 1751. By tax records John Adams Jr was likely born ca 1689. It is believed that he married a daughter of George or John Nipper, based purely on the unusual name of son Nipper Adams.
There was a John Adams listed as a headright by one Roger Johns in Northampton in 1645. Although likely of the same family, it is felt that that man is too young to be John Adams who married Katherine. The man who married Katherine was likely born in 1660 or so. Northumberland Co records suggest that this couple had -- in addition to John Jr, a son James, a son Daniel, and a daughter Catherine.
John Adams Jr and Elizabeth are known to have had a son John, likely born after 1714. Land grant records suggest that he is the John Adams who failed to take up a 1742 land grant near that of his brother George and his father John Jr.
Philip and Sylvester Adams are sons of Gabriel Adams who may or may not be another child of John and Catherine. The John Adams who married Susannah is Gabriel's son. John Adams III, the son of John Adams Jr and Elizabeth is believed to be the man who married Eleanor (possibly Powell).
Almost the entire descendancy of this Adams family migrated to southern Virginia and northern North Carolina, as did descendants of John Adams of Charles Co MD and Francis Adams (also of Charles Co MD). There is some evidence to suggest these families are related, but the relationship would date back to sometime before 1650.

1702 April 16, 1702 John Adams and Katherine, his wife, acknowledged a conveyance of 60 acres land unto John Shirley.
